Archduke Franz Ferdinand was assassinated at Sarajevo by Gavrilo Princip on 28 June 1914
- 23 July 1914 Austro-Hungarian Government send ultimatum to Serbia.
- 24 July 1914. German Government submit note to Entente Governments approving the Austrian ultimatum to Serbia
- 25 July 1914 Serbian Government order Mobilisation. Austria severs diplomatic relations with Serbia.
- 26 July 1914. Austro-Hungarian order partial Mobilisation against Serbia. Kaiser returns from Baltic to Berlin
- 27 July 1914. French and Italian Governments accept British proposals for an International Conference. German High Seas Fleet recalled from Norway to war bases.
- 28 July 1914. Austria-Hungary declare War on Serbia. Germany rejects British proposals for an International Conference. British Fleets are ordered to war bases.
