The Truth about the Peace Treaties

‘The Truth about the Peace Treaties’ Published as a two volume account of David Lloyd George’s view of how the Treaty of Versailles was compiled, and its effect on the organisation of Europe after the war seen through the eyes of the ‘Welsh Wizard’, the ‘Man Who Won the War’. His view was that criticism is often based on prejudice or ignorance, and whilst true that various provisions of the Treaty arguably failed to take effect, he suggests that it was because of defects in the treaty itself or a refusal of the principal nations to honour its provisions. Lloyd George questions whether some of the nations ever made themselves properly acquainted with the full context and direction of its requirements. Was it because they themselves were going to be subject to its stipulations or simply, did they just hate each other around the table. World peace depended on whether any settlement could be properly mastered and understood. Germany had lost the War, but some nations wanted to see them treated much more harshly than was eventually realised, but given the scale of atrocity feelings were running high and it was therefore in danger of not receiving a balanced judgment.
